Full Body Health Check UK: Comparing the Best Packages

MRI scans are coming soon to Lola Health. We are not taking bookings yet. In the meantime, you can book an at-home blood test, with a phlebotomist visit included.

A "full body health check" in the UK can mean anything from a 15-minute GP check-up to a £5,000+ executive screening package. The quality, depth, and value vary enormously. This guide compares every major UK health check provider — what's included, what it costs, and which actually gives you useful clinical information.

What Makes a Good Health Check?

A genuinely useful health check needs three things:

1. Detailed Blood Work

A basic blood panel (10–15 markers) gives you a very limited view. You need at least 50+ biomarkers to meaningfully assess your health. The markers that matter most:

  • Liver function: ALT, AST, GGT, ALP, bilirubin, albumin
  • Kidney function: Creatinine, eGFR, urea
  • Thyroid: TSH, Free T3, Free T4
  • Lipids: Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, cholesterol ratio
  • Diabetes: HbA1c, fasting glucose
  • Inflammation: CRP, ESR
  • Iron: Ferritin, iron, TIBC, transferrin saturation
  • Hormones: Testosterone, oestradiol, SHBG, cortisol
  • Vitamins: Vitamin D, B12, folate
  • Prostate (men): PSA
  • Cancer markers: CA-125, CEA (where appropriate)

The Peak 70 blood test covers all of the above and more — 70 biomarkers for £235, with a home phlebotomist visit included.

2. Imaging

Blood tests measure biochemistry. Imaging shows structure. You need both. A liver blood test might show normal enzymes, but an MRI could reveal a cyst or fatty infiltration. Conversely, a scan might look normal, but bloods could reveal early kidney damage or thyroid dysfunction. The combination is far more powerful than either alone.

3. Actionable Results

Raw numbers without context are useless. Good health checks explain what each result means, flag anything outside the normal range, and tell you what to do about it.

Why Most Health Checks Fall Short

Bupa and Nuffield "MOT" Style

These typically include a GP consultation, basic blood tests (15–30 markers), blood pressure, BMI, and a lifestyle questionnaire. They're better than nothing, but they don't include imaging and test far fewer blood markers than a comprehensive panel. For £350–£550, you're mainly paying for the GP's time and the clinic overhead.

Blood-Only Providers (Medichecks, Thriva)

Good blood test providers that offer up to 50 biomarkers online. But no imaging. If your liver enzymes are raised, they'll tell you — but they can't show you what's causing it. You'd need to separately arrange a scan.

MRI-Only Providers (Prenuvo, Ezra)

Detailed imaging but no blood work. A full body MRI can spot structural issues but misses biochemical problems entirely. Your liver might look structurally normal on MRI while your blood shows ALT levels three times the upper limit.
